Three former champs among early entrants for 22nd TrueNorth GCRO

Three former champs are among the early entrants for the 22nd TrueNorth Greater Cedar Rapids Open, presented by UFG Insurance.

Local favorite and 2009 GCRO champ Sean McCarty leads the way. The Brown Deer Golf Course head professional will also play in the Waterloo Open before joining the fray at Hunters Ridge and the battle for the $30,000* winner’s check at the GCRO.

When healthy, McCarty is an annual contender at the GCRO. He has six Top 20s at Hunters Ridge including his title run. McCarty tied for seventh in 2019. He finished T15 in 2018, was fourth in 2013, T16 in 2012 and T20 in 2010.

Seth Fair, who won the 2016 GCRO after several high finishes, is also back. Fair (Whitestown, IN) has finished second here twice, most recently in 2019 to Dan Woltman.

Former University of Iowa golfer Nathan Yankovich (Blacklick, OH), the 2018 GCRO champ, is back for another go around. Yankovich beat Brant Peaper in a one-hole playoff to win his title. Peaper (Jupiter, FL) is also back. He finished T11 in 2019 after his near-miss the year before.

The GCRO kicks off with pro-am tournaments Tuesday and Wednesday, July 20 and 21. The 54-hole professional golf tournament is slated for a 7 a.m. start Thursday, July 22. The second round will be Friday, July 23 and the final round is slated for Saturday, July 24.
